Yuletide Letter

Dear Yuletide Gift Giver,

           

First off, thank you so much for writing in one of these fandoms for me. You are awesome. I am so happy you enjoy one of my favorite small fandoms! I hope you won’t be scared of this letter. I swear I’m not as crazy as this makes me seem.

 

For the fandoms I requested I prefer gen, and except for “Pippin,” I would love it if it were plotty gen. That isn’t to say you can’t write a shipfic, though please no PWPs. I will read slash, het or femslash. I chose these fandoms because I love the source material and I would like stories that match the feel of the canon. I didn’t list any pairings in my prompts, so if you are planning to add a romance angle please respect canon pairings, though don’t feel bound by them.

I have a serious incest squick and will not read anything that goes in that direction. I don’t think it will come up, but no mpreg, noncon or BDSM. I have an irrational hate of second person POV. Also, I have a very low tolerance for character bashing, specifically female character bashing, so please refrain.

 

Castle in the Sky aka Laputa –

I love the low key steampunk vibe to the movie. I love the fact that the female characters are strong, have agency and still remain feminine. I adore all the characters, but Dola is my favorite by a mile. She is badass and still cares about pigtails. I would love it if you could write her an adventure story. It doesn’t have to be a big adventure, or dangerous, but just shows how kickass she is. I do like her relationship with her husband, so please keep that in mind.

Laputa is the easiest fandom to catch up on so if you were assigned one of the other three and aren’t feeling my prompts this would be the way to go.

 

NewsRadio –

Wacky hijinks that make me laugh, that is what I want in this fandom. Don’t worry about being canon compliant in this fandom as I am not. Indulge in crack and I will love you for it. If you feel the need to work a pairing into this I do like Bill/Catherine or, if suitably wacky, Bill/Matthew, but I’m not really a shipper for this show. Bill often mentions his horrible childhood on the show with fondness. I would love a fic that explored this without going into angst territory. (I realize that could be difficult so feel free to disregard that request.)

If you feel the need to brush up on the canon, the almost the entire series can be legally streamed by U.S. residents at hulu.

 

Pippin –

This is the fandom I am open to just about anything in. Feel free to play with any concepts related to it being a play ie breaking the fourth wall or being portrayed by different actors. As I mentioned in the prompt, though traditionally a male role, the Lead Player can be played by a woman, which would be interesting to explore. I would not mind seeing a pairing of Lead Player/Pippin at all.

 I’m most familiar with the OBCR and the DVD released of the first national tour. Clips from that DVD are readily available on youtube. The full libretto and lyrics can be found here.

 

The Wire –

I love the bleakness for this show. I love that the good guys don’t always win, and when they do win it doesn’t mean that things improve. As for the characters I chose, I love Ellis Carver for the growth he showed over the seasons. He went from being the comedic relief to being a leader. I love that he tried to do the right thing, even though he often didn’t do it the right way. (Also, he is hot like burning.) Randy, like all the kids on this show, just breaks my heart. And I mentioned it in my prompt but I just need to be sure, please don’t add a sexual component to their relationship! Background slash or het would be fine though not necessary. I would rather have a story in this fandom stay grounded in the show’s reality and break my heart than make me laugh.
