No, you are not suffering from déjà vu. This is a semi-repost of art done last year. The fic is done and being posted today (yay!) so I took the opportunity to cringe at the stuff I did then and decided to try and salvage it. So while some of these things will look v. similar, some pieces are new or just completely redone.

SPNJ2BB 2011: The Maiden Voyage of the S.S. Bad Touch

sunspot for being so enthusiastic about working with me, even when I decided to try a new style.

Which leads me to a caveat: While I can design and can use shapes to create icons and logos in Illustrator, freehand work or even tracing is not my forte. Proceed with caution is all I am saying.

Once again I managed to snag the claim of a fellow fan artist, this time

a brief account of the week of one kristin o. lastname, age twenty and four

People, why is my life so very boring? Please don't answer that, for I fear it would result in a vicious cycle of tediousness.

Instead, let's talk fannish happenings. And since I do so very much love lists, I am employing the trusty bullets.

The season of big bangs has commenced! Feel free to make dirty jokes about banging and big things as you please. This weekend I finished art for two claims, one for the first round of thesocialbbang and the other for sncross_bigbang. (Yes, I officially failed at writing for the latter, so claimed an awesome fic to make art for instead.)

I also have two more fics in my possession in need of art (for spn_j2_bigbang) for which I have plans and ideas. So many ideas! (And also, awesomely, lots and lots of time until they will be posted.)

Relatedly, lend me your ears! Or rather, lend me the thing you listen to with your ears, aka music! While putting together mixes I realized my music collection is in need of a good turnover. What are you listening to these days, oh wonderful circle of friends?

I (obviously) have been listening to Lupe's new album. (You should have seen my face when Lasers leaked. It was like :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. Only happier. And not actually an emoticon.) Sadly, it did not quite live up to my expectations, though truthfully that would have been very hard. But I still recommend it, as well as all of his past catalog.

This week marks the ending of most of the shows I follow. I am considering doing a roundup of this TV season and why I started/stopped/continued watching certain shows. However, I think I would need to break out my Teal Deer Crossing sign if I did that.

I have been following the ongoing Upfronts, because, yes, I am that kind of a TV geek. I am super excited for Awake and Alcatraz, and kinda meh about all the other announced new shows so far. I have very mixed feelings about the fact that NBC declined to pick up Wonder Woman. Gimme fantastic female superheros, please and thank you. On the other hand, well, script, costume and David E. Kelly involvement all pointed to awful television territory.

Lastly. Here is my in-depth critique of this week's Doctor Who.

home again, home again

I suppose I should explain my absence from DW/LJ, seeing as I haven't posted in a month and a half. But really, it can all be explained away by the fact that while my real life isn't yet super busy, I am trying very hard to make it so.

Among things I have done in the meantime:

Earned money for my art and design skills. (Hopefully this won't be anything of note by this time next year, but for now I am letting myself be happy I have found a way to earn my keep doing something I love.)

Gone to an Erotic Reading Room at a bar. I found myself wondering what percentage of the people there were from fandom.

Signed up for writing in a big bang. I only have about 2k words written so far, but I think I can do this. I do not, however, think anyone else will want to read it. (For I am actually writing the Supernatural/The Wire crossover I started. The problem is the balance. All 2k words so far are from Michael's (The Wire) POV and the Winchesters have yet to make an appearance.)

Written three Supernatural drabbles. This was done entirely to qualify for Remix. I loved pinch hitting last year, but wanted to be able to play for real. The only fandom I qualified for was The Wire, which obviously didn't make their list. Therefore the drabbles. I was amused to find I had the same thought processes last year, which is why I only needed three new drabbles to get me to the minimum.

All my fic is up on AO3 now. Looking at it all assembled there makes me realize just how little I have written. There are a couple comment fics I need to clean up a bit and add, but as it stands now, I have only written 32 fics in all my years of fandom, 6 of which are drabbles. (Unsurprisingly, most of my writing has come out of Yuletide. 18 out of 32, in fact.)

These are the graphics I made for

llwyden for the

werewolfbigbang challenge. I offered to beta this fic awhile back, not knowing the fandom or characters, because LLwyden is an awesome friend. I ended up enjoying it and claiming it for nefarious purposes (aka to make art and a mix for it.) Also, I am posting these to my own journal contrary to challenge practices, but I think Llwyden and I will survive.

This art presented some interesting challenges, in that the fandom was a live action video game. (Something I had no clue existed.) This led to me doing things like screencapping YouTube walkthroughs and had to adapt my style to lower quality images. I had lots of fun experimenting to find a style that would work. But enough of that! On to the art! You can find the mix here.

Summary: When Dean and Cas show up in time to stop Sam killing Lilith, Team Free Will are all set to settle back into a life of saving people and hunting things - but nothing's perfect. Dean's a jerk who can't keep it in his pants; Cas feels there's plenty of room in his for the both of them. Sam's sure you can't be fuckbuddies with an angel and he's going to prove it - just as soon as he finishes scouring his eyeballs with soap.

But when Cas becomes Heaven's Most Wanted and the cops figure out the boys aren't as dead as they should be, Dean and Cas may prove to be both more and less obtuse than expected.

spn_j2_bigbang 2010: pinch hit

A couple days ago I got an email from the

spn_j2_bigbang mods that a fic had been posted, but the artist never posted their art. As I am helpless to ever say no (see the year I betaed 20+ fics for Yuletide) I agreed to pinch hit. This isn't my typical style, as it isn't a fic I would normally choose. But it was an interesting experience!

It's that time again! aka TARDIS Big Bang

tardis_bigbang was my first big bang challenge ever, last year. So I was delighted to do it again this year. You can find the art I did this year either embedded with the fics or here on the website or here on the feedback journal for the challenge. Go check it out!

This year I was assigned

quean_of_swords's fic Noble Persuits. It is a delightful Donna-centric 10.2/Rose fic set in Pete's World. I had a lot of fun reading a making art for it. It also inspired my favorite piece I made for any challenge this year:

Not my typical style, but it actually came out just how I pictured it which is very rare for me.

I also betaed two fabulous fics: Roll on Yesterday by

the_afterlight and Rule 39 by

hhertzof. This year we could collaborate with our authors, but I got permission from the mods to keep the art I did for them a secret. I would insert an evil laugh here, but it tends to come out as more of a giggle.

I also did a last minute bonus round for art and did a piece for Adventure of a Lifetime: Relationships by

malicehaughton.

When I was pulling together links for this post I stumbled across the art I did for last year. And now I kinda want to kick younger me for signing up when I'd only been using Photoshop for 6 mo. (And I'm sure next year I will look back on all my work from this year thinking "why did you do this, younger self? you still haven't figured out using a tablet and your manips are highly unrealistic?) But at least I've improved. I try to emulate my beloved Kanye and try to be a doper person. (Seriously, there are few things in life I am more irrational about than Kanye. His twitter is doing nothing to quell my desire to be him when I grow up.)

Fic Summary: Gabriel fell long before the birth of Christ - although that was his last official mission for the home that he had deserted. The fact that he was left more-or-less alone for the first few millenia cemented his belief that their Father really had no interest in his first children any more; Heaven was no longer the same, Michael was not the same, not after the Fall. So he slipped from Heaven, and met a Trickster one day in the south of France. Their years together lead to her exhaustion of the world, and once she leaves Gabriel is the most powerful Trickster in existence. Of course, that all goes to Hell when the Apocalypse starts, and Gabriel finds his loyalties torn between the family he still loves and the new life he has forged for himself on Earth.
