kristin: (doctorwho: the boy who waited)
I happened to stop on my profile the other day and I realized I missed my 5th year anniversary on LJ. I suppose I should do some meme or other in celebration, but realistically I don't have time to make icons and I haven't been able to write anything for months. So let's not and say I did.

I realize I have been a bit absent, partly due to the time thing and the inability to write thing, but mostly because I have been feeling a bit disconnected from fandom. (Though I am, as always, overwhelmed and appreciative that people like my fanart. Really, people comment, and not just to tell me how awful it is! I am always amazed when that happens.)

But there have been a few vids that have made me happy lately that I thought I should share:

Five Years Time by [ profile] gigglemonster (Parks and Rec)
This vid is love. Sorry for the old meme, but that is my legit reaction to this. I love the song choice and the effervescence that fills it. I dare you to watch it and not smile.

When the Ship Comes In by [personal profile] chaila (The Wire)
I did not expect the song choice but it works so freaking well to demonstrate the wonderfully tragic relationship of Stringer and Avon. My initial thought was to just tell all of you to watch it and write me lots of fic, but due to spoilers: Go watch The Wire, then watch this vid, then write me lots of fic. And seriously, it will be worth your time to complete all those steps.

Welcome Home by [ profile] barkley (Friday Night Lights)
I miss this show already. This vid doesn't mitigate that (which would be more than a bit impossibly) but it does distill how great the show was.

It's the End of the World as We Know It by [personal profile] danegen (Community)
Even a wildly overused song, when applied correctly, can result in an awesome vid. Such is the case here.

You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate by [personal profile] settiai (Doctor Who [New])
PONDS! Ponds being precious and heroic and so perfect for each other.

And in case you were wondering, that vid rec also stands as my reaction to the latest ep.
kristin: (music: lupe is the cool)
People, why is my life so very boring? Please don't answer that, for I fear it would result in a vicious cycle of tediousness.

Instead, let's talk fannish happenings. And since I do so very much love lists, I am employing the trusty bullets.
  • The season of big bangs has commenced! Feel free to make dirty jokes about banging and big things as you please. This weekend I finished art for two claims, one for the first round of [ profile] thesocialbbang and the other for [ profile] sncross_bigbang. (Yes, I officially failed at writing for the latter, so claimed an awesome fic to make art for instead.)

I also have two more fics in my possession in need of art (for [ profile] spn_j2_bigbang) for which I have plans and ideas. So many ideas! (And also, awesomely, lots and lots of time until they will be posted.)

  • Relatedly, lend me your ears! Or rather, lend me the thing you listen to with your ears, aka music! While putting together mixes I realized my music collection is in need of a good turnover. What are you listening to these days, oh wonderful circle of friends?

I (obviously) have been listening to Lupe's new album. (You should have seen my face when Lasers leaked. It was like :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. Only happier. And not actually an emoticon.) Sadly, it did not quite live up to my expectations, though truthfully that would have been very hard. But I still recommend it, as well as all of his past catalog.

  • This week marks the ending of most of the shows I follow. I am considering doing a roundup of this TV season and why I started/stopped/continued watching certain shows. However, I think I would need to break out my Teal Deer Crossing sign if I did that.

I have been following the ongoing Upfronts, because, yes, I am that kind of a TV geek. I am super excited for Awake and Alcatraz, and kinda meh about all the other announced new shows so far. I have very mixed feelings about the fact that NBC declined to pick up Wonder Woman. Gimme fantastic female superheros, please and thank you. On the other hand, well, script, costume and David E. Kelly involvement all pointed to awful television territory.

  • Lastly. Here is my in-depth critique of this week's Doctor Who.

    no real spoilers )
kristin: (doctor who: craig/dalek otp)
First! I drabbled. (Which is less disgusting than it sounds. I know it is a legit term I just always read it as something not that pleasant.) And as I am bit of a purist, yes, it is exactly 100 words, at least according to Ao3.

So here is a tiny fic about Rory that I knid of hate. Not because of Rory, but because I am sure I fucked up his voice. (Wow, I am sure selling the shit out of this fic, aren't I?)

Knowing (100 words) by faviconkristin
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005), Doctor Who, Doctor Who & Related Fandoms
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Amy Pond/Rory Williams
Characters: Rory Williams

Rory has heard the comments. Hard not to. “You let your girlfriend/fiancee/wife go around kissing other blokes?” (As if he ever let Amy do anything.)

Secondly, I am in the finishing process of two fics, one for an exchange one for fun. Each will clock in at under 1k (or just about that range) and each needs a beta and (if I can get it) Brit-picking. The fics:
  • Doctor Who, River Song and Donna Noble gen.

  • Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock and John gen.

Please let me know if you can help out over the next couple days! (They won't be ready for anyone else's eye until tomorrow morning.)

oh, shows

kristin: (community: looking in)
*waves hi at newcomers*

People, this week was awesome. Not personally, but fannishly.

Exhibit A: I finished my remix fic and pinch hit and while I have a few issues with both, they are done and not completely shit.

Exhibit B: Community was back, baby! I mean, it has been airing regularly, but it was back to form. Funny, meta and character driven. Plus, Annie's boobs.

Exhibit C: One of my very favorite shows came back on the air, delightfully and true to form. And I'm not talking about Doctor Who. (Okay, I am, but I am also talking about the also very very wonderful Treme.)

People, why are you not talking about this? Spoilers! )
Also, shirtless PJ Ransome.

Exhibit D: Now I am actually talking about Doctor Who. And what I have to say is: OH MY SHOW YOU ARE BACK AND I LOVE YOU AND PONDS AND RIVER AND ELEVENTY AND EVERYTHING AND CREEPY ALIENS AND TARDIS AND HATS AND LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. I'm not going to talk about the plot yet, mostly because I want to see the rest of the two-parter. (Preferably now, please, Moffat. *grabby hands*)

Exhibit E: I have been all writerly. I get this way around fic exchanges. Something switches on and I end up wanting to write more and more and then I get tired of it and don't write for months. However! This time I am afflicted with a certain awfulness: too many WiPs. (And yet, I started two new ones today, oh, brain.)

Therefore I am making a list of fics I actually want need to finish to force myself to concentrate on them:
  • River&Donna, telepathy fic (Doctor Who) - a fill for the female character trope fest that is almost done.

  • Rory relationship drabble (Doctor Who) - I was thinking thoughts and am writing them. Novel, I know.

  • Veronica Mars / The Good Wife thing (self explanatory) - another fill for the trope fest that I have snippets for but needs a fuckton of work to make it have, idek, logic?

  • robot!mark (TSN) - this had been languishing unattended on the kinkmeme for weeks. i need to just put a few hours in and get some more words out.

  • Pineapple Bodywash (Old Spice Man / Psych) - this has been half written for almost a year now.

My goal is to get all of those done in the next two weeks. Doable, yes. Likely, eh, we'll see.
kristin: (goodwife: kalinda)
So, yes, I wrote a bunch of fics for Purim Gifts in a bunch of different fandoms. (Specific, aren't I?)

fics for firefly, hunger games, doctor who, community, psych, southland and psych/southland under the cut )

Also! I have seen this meme floating and it is never not fun. (Except when people don't comment, so please do!)
1. Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2. Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?', 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?', 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?'

3. After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.
kristin: (random: oscar the grouch)
I have begun reading my way through the Yuletide archive is a haphazard manner. Here are a few of the fics I have particularly enjoyed:

Gifts for Me! (c/ped from my reaction post because omg, so many fics to rec.)
The Way We Look at a Constellation - Fandom: Southland, Metropolis: the Chase Suite - Janelle Monae, Troubleshooter Inc. - Suzanne Brockmann, Graceland (Album).

Yes, just take that list of fandoms all in. (Made more impressive by the fact that I requested none of them this year.) It is a glorious, glorious fusion of awesome and amazing and epic.

Ready or Not is a motherfucking WIRE APOCAFIC. Oh, but wait it gets better. IT IS A MOTHERFUCKING WIRE APOCAFIC ABOUT RANDY AND CARVER. Someday I will be able to express my feelings without capslock. Today is not that day.

The Path Ahead is a wonderful crossover between the Sarah Jane audio books and Strange Days at Blake Holsey High and is full of awesome timey-wimey bits.

Other Recs
#yuletide, winnie the pooh, all dogs go to heaven, better off ted, cougar town, dollhouse, community, friday night lights, haven, life, mad men, metropolis suite, the middleman, modern family, old spice man, parks & rec, sarah jane adventures, son of a preacher man, southland, sports night, telephone, threadless t-shirt designs, treme, the walking dead, the wire )
kristin: (the wire: bodie)
While I was doing my 20in20 icons I realized that I had gotten woefully unused to working on icon size graphics. Somehow that led to me making just under a hundred icons to practice. Ooops?

01 - 15 Doctor Who (All second doctor except for one random Donna icon)
16 - 30 Pushing Daisies
31 - 48 Sherlock
49 - 56 Southland
57 - 88 The Wire (Includes a spoiler for the end of season 4)
88 - 99 Grab Bag (Includes Psych, Generation Kill, Christina Hendricks and random kissing icons)

kristin: (doctor who: lady like)
I am posting this at Panera as I am here for lunch and precious precious Internet. Mine has been out for days and I am going crazy from the boredom.

Today is my four year lj-versary. I find that a very weird this indeed. I was just a wee thing when I started it, and not very fannish. Of course, now I am much more involved. I realized I hadn't linked my more recent fics here. (I am still far from prolific, but I did write a couple of things these past months.) Echoes Down the Line is Southland, Cooper-centric. I also forgot to link my Remix pinch hit Name vs. Nature (the Demonstrative Remix) in which The Rani (Classic Doctor Who) meets Rani (The Sarah Jane Adventures.)

I also wrote a couple commentfics: a snippet of Clyde and Rani (SJA) for a meme, then a crack crossover for the [community profile] oldspice_kinkmeme. I already anon failed on it, so I might as well claim the Psych/Old Spice Man fill. As if that isn't crazy enough, I also working on an Inception/Old Spice Man fic for [ profile] freneticfloetry because she is my favorite.

Now for the icons!
For this round of [ profile] doctorwho20in20 they allowed people to claim either a series of New Who or an era of Classic. I went with Two era, for they are my favorites. (Two/Zoe/Jamie is my platonic OT3)

the rest are under the cut )
kristin: (doctorwho: turlough is an artist)
I haven't posted icons in awhile. I can tall because some of these are from September of 2009. Oops.

In honor of the creation of [ profile] oh_fiddle, I am offering some colored icons of Victoria.

Please credit me if you use, and a comment to know if you are taking any would be awesome!

10 icons under the cut )

People, I need to stop making icons and actually finish my [ profile] picfor1000 fic. Someone yell at me to write! (Also, if anyone will be up to quickly betaing a 1,000 words of Pushing Daisies gen later today let me know.)
kristin: (victoria)
I decided I wanted a new header for my journal, which of course lead to the making of many many graphics. I think I am happy with my choice. ([ profile] attempt_unique) But, as I mentioned, extras. I'm also posting some icons, as I seem to have a never ending supply.

. .

Icons are up for grabs, but credit me. A comment letting me know which, if any, you are taking would be awesome. Textless does not equal base. Click on the preview images of the headers to be taken to the fullsize.

Wow, that took an embarrassingly long time to code!
kristin: (ot3)
I think iconing (iconning? can i get a ruling on that spelling?) is an addiction (even if it isn't a word). I just keep making more, even when I could be reading/watching T.V./writing. I'll see a pretty picture, or hear a song and go 'I should make an icon of him/her.' And because my tastes are varied and I've never been monofannish, the icons I make are completely random, making it harder for me to justify posting them.

to icon journal or not to icon journal )

Icons are up for grabs, but credit me. A comment letting me know which, if any, you are taking would be awesome. Textless does not equal base.

69 icons under the cut )

eh, I probably won't make an icon journal. Flist, i apologize for the many icon posts.
kristin: (zoe in a meteor storm)
I have yet again committed icons. (in my defense, I have legitimate work-related reasons for getting more familiar with photoshop.)

. .

24 classic who icons, mostly 2nd doctor era )

I actually hadn't colored any b&w stills before, so it was fun figuring that out. I think I am beginning to see improvement in my icon making skills so far, which is definitely yayful. I still need to get better at coming up with text for icons, as i mostly fail when i try.

feel free to take any, though I would like credit. A comment letting me know which you are taking would be awesome.
kristin: (chuck half smile)
I have been on an icon making binge lately, with no real rhyme or reason to the subject matter. I don't have the space to use all of them, so I am offering them up. I would appreciate it if you would comment if you take any, and give me credit. The textless icons are not meant to be bases.

Fandoms include Pushing Daisies, The Wire, Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Psych and Veronica Mars. There are also high fashion and misc. celebrity icons.

. . .

many more under the cut )

p.s. flist - let me know if any of my coding is off. this is my first mass icon post and i don't want to mess anything up. also, let me know of any communities i could crosspost this to.
