and now a bit of discussion about the results (including graphs!) )
kristin: (goodwife: kalinda)
So, yes, I wrote a bunch of fics for Purim Gifts in a bunch of different fandoms. (Specific, aren't I?)

fics for firefly, hunger games, doctor who, community, psych, southland and psych/southland under the cut )

Also! I have seen this meme floating and it is never not fun. (Except when people don't comment, so please do!)
1. Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2. Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?', 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?', 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?'

3. After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

While I was doing my 20in20 icons I realized that I had gotten woefully unused to working on icon size graphics. Somehow that led to me making just under a hundred icons to practice. Ooops?

Fandoms
01 - 15 Doctor Who (All second doctor except for one random Donna icon)
16 - 30 Pushing Daisies
31 - 48 Sherlock
49 - 56 Southland
57 - 88 The Wire (Includes a spoiler for the end of season 4)
88 - 99 Grab Bag (Includes Psych, Generation Kill, Christina Hendricks and random kissing icons)

I am posting this at Panera as I am here for lunch and precious precious Internet. Mine has been out for days and I am going crazy from the boredom.

Today is my four year lj-versary. I find that a very weird this indeed. I was just a wee thing when I started it, and not very fannish. Of course, now I am much more involved. I realized I hadn't linked my more recent fics here. (I am still far from prolific, but I did write a couple of things these past months.) Echoes Down the Line is Southland, Cooper-centric. I also forgot to link my Remix pinch hit Name vs. Nature (the Demonstrative Remix) in which The Rani (Classic Doctor Who) meets Rani (The Sarah Jane Adventures.)

I also wrote a couple commentfics: a snippet of Clyde and Rani (SJA) for a meme, then a crack crossover for the [community profile] oldspice_kinkmeme. I already anon failed on it, so I might as well claim the Psych/Old Spice Man fill. As if that isn't crazy enough, I also working on an Inception/Old Spice Man fic for [livejournal.com profile] freneticfloetry because she is my favorite.

Now for the icons!
For this round of [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho20in20 they allowed people to claim either a series of New Who or an era of Classic. I went with Two era, for they are my favorites. (Two/Zoe/Jamie is my platonic OT3)

Oh yes, this is a gratuitous icon post. My love for Gus is pure. (That is a lie. I would do very impure things to him.)

In other news, life and the job market generally suck (as does packing).

Icon dump time! These were made at various times over the past five months or so, and therefore range quite a bit in style (and really, technical merit.) I will make a custom icon for anyone who can guess which techniques I have learned over that time span.

Fandoms include: Doctor Who (Classic and New), Leverage, Merlin, Pushing Daisies, Psych, The Wire, The West Wing, Life, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Bones, Being Human, Kanye West (shut up, that totally is a fandom) and various celebs.

I have been on an icon making binge lately, with no real rhyme or reason to the subject matter. I don't have the space to use all of them, so I am offering them up. I would appreciate it if you would comment if you take any, and give me credit. The textless icons are not meant to be bases.

Fandoms include Pushing Daisies, The Wire, Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Psych and Veronica Mars. There are also high fashion and misc. celebrity icons.

p.s. flist - let me know if any of my coding is off. this is my first mass icon post and i don't want to mess anything up. also, let me know of any communities i could crosspost this to.

as you should be aware, yuletide authors have been revealed.

this year i wrote three stories:

to forge the steel, an assassins (musical) fic for nextian. this was my original fic, and therefore the one i worried the most about. it came out as well as could be expected, considering i almost didn't offer assassins this year. i am most proud, in this fic, of booth's dialogue. it really flowed for me, and people seemed to like it.

the main thing that was different for me about this is that i tried to write slash subtext. nextian requested slash, and even though i'm not yet comfortable writing it yet, i thought i would hint at it. apparently that came through, so yay!

this fic owes a ton to the betas: wrabbit and truth. they really, really helped, as it was in bad shape before they got their hands on it.

wearing down life, was a pinch hit written for anythingbutblue. it is a trigun fic, based on the anime as per request, which is good as i haven't read the manga. this one i really liked when i wrote it. it is a bit ridiculous, i admit, in that i have wolfwood chasing a cat and an oc called blah. this story showcases my great inability to name characters.

this fic was easy for me to write, but once i posted i really started to worry about it. i had actually never written in a translated fandom before (i watched it subbed) and am not 100% about the character voices. in terms of reception, well, the recipient liked it, and that is what mattered

do robots dream of electric pineapples was a treat for pocketmouse. the fandom was psych, and the plot is crack. really. i made shawn a robot for real. therefore, obviously, it was my most popular fic.

the weird thing is, this is the only one of three i wrote to make a point. shawn is played by james roday, who is latino, though the character is portrayed as white. the actors who play his parents are both white, with blonde hair and blue eyes. how this works is never mentioned on the show. my solution was to make shawn a robot.

people thought it was funny, which is good. i had never actually set out to write something funny before, and am glad it succeeded.

the comments on my fics have been nice, but the best parts of this whole yuletide are the wonderful people from #yultide chat. ♥ s you all.
