Oh, me too. I know some people use really fancy borders, but when I use them I stick to something plain and between one to three pixels. I like space!
I think you've improved with the oversaturation. And even with your early icons, well, I've seen some iconmakers who go way more extreme with the oversaturation. So as long as you're paying attention to it, that's what matters! I'm a big fan of color, too. My father used to paint and all his works deal with color progressions, so I think the interest in color is a little bit genetic for me!
And that is a rough base image to start with. (Cute though! Jamie and Victoria are so sweet!) I can stubborn about working with certain images, too... Often I give up and admit defeat when I get really frustrated!
