*g* I started playing around with icons as a way to learn how to work with graphics programs, too. I use GIMP though and while there is some carry-over between it and Photoshop, PS throws me for a loop at times. May I ask what you do for work? (And if you prefer not to say, no worries!)

Yep, I can definitely see the difference there! So you've been colorizing the large images then cropping down for the icons? (Rather than cropping, then colorizing?)

Ahh, I see! I like the border on this one especially; I think the color really adds to it.

I don't know that I've used VLC for screencapping, other than the "snapshot" function. I have used the GOM Player and it has a couple options, including an "Advanced Screencapture" that allows you to select the file type, number of captures, duration of captures, etc. Not sure how it compares with VLC, but might be another option for you.
