Today is More Joy Day. I haven't had a lot of joy to spread over the past year, but what I've had has come from music. Therefore, I've made a mix for you all. There are 18 happy songs that will hopefully bring you joy this day.

Track Listing:
(individual songs are uploaded to either mediafire or sendspace)
1. Shine - Estelle
Really, I could have uploaded her whole album, called it joy and it would be fine. Her music is bright and happy. The mix of rap and R&B is perfect.
2. Blue Skies - Eva Cassidy
The song is a jazz classic for a reason. This version is great, jazzy with a great ratio of scatting to singing.
3. Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love) - Ella Fitzgerald
Her voice really sells the song. The lyrics haven't aged all that well, but the voice and melody are timeless.
4. Stop This World - Ne-Yo
Ne-Yo was one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. I love every song off his new album, something I hadn't expected when I heard the singles.
5. Wonderful You - Audra McDonald
Audra is hands down my favorite vocalist. I fell in love with her voice from the Ragtime OBC recording, but her solo records (all covers) are simply divine.
6. How Six Songs Collide - Norwegian Recycling
One of two mashups on this mix. This is the most played track on my iTunes by a wide margin. I love the way the six simple melodies came together to create something beautiful. Plus, I had been obsessed with 5/6 six songs at one point or another before I heard the mashup. (and no, I didn't intend to be cutesy by putting this sixth on the list, it just happened.)
7. Singin' in the Rain - Gene Kelly
How can you have a mix about joy and not include this song? I hear the opening notes and instantly get a bit of a smile.
8. Break the Sky - The Hush Sound
I love the lyrics, the vocals and just about everything else about this song. It sounds like a throwback, though it was just released this year.
9. I Can See Clearly Now - Holly Cole Trio
A nice jazzy little take on the song.
10. The Minnow & the Trout - One Fine Frenzy
This song is a bit of an earworm and the lyrics are overly sentimental, yet i can't help but love it.
11. Believe! - empires
Bouncy and a bit rockier than anything so far on the list. Short and sweet.
12. Let's Dance to Joy Division - The Wombats
I would have loved the song for the title alone, but the song itself is great too.
13. Swing, Swing - The All-American Rejects
This is my nostalgia song (though it is younger than most of the list). I listened to this repeatedly in high school, but still makes me smile.
14. Just Dance to New Order - DJ Earworm
If you like mashups at all, you know about DJ Earworm. I will listen to absolutely anything he posts. This is my favorite track of the year to run to.
15. Top of the World - Shonen Knife
I actually found this cover by accident. It is nothing like the original. It is fun and happy at a much higher tempo than the original.
16. hunnyisforbees - Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy is another band I've listened to since high school. This song is nothing like the songs they played then. It is soft, quite and almost lovely.
17. No One Is Alone - Into the Woods
Into the Woods was the first CD my mom ever got me, when I was in the second grade. It still has the power to make me cry.
18. Hear my Song - Songs for a New World
Listen to the song that I sing
And trust me...
We'll be fine...
A new world calls across the ocean!
The complete mix is uploaded to Mediafire here. There will be a sendspace link soon, but it hasn't finished uploading yet. Let me know if anything isn't working for you.
